Championdrive.com is pleased to present the this week's, “Beyond the Winners Circle” featuring Logan Newsom from San Angelo, Texas. We invite you to read our interview with Logan below. Please continue to check back weekly for our next edition of “Beyond the Winners Circle”.

Where do you live?
I live in San Angelo, TX where I am about to start my last semester at Angelo State University.

Married/Kids?
I have been married to my wife Jenny Bett for almost two years.

College/Major?
I am majoring in Agri-business and will be starting my graduate studies in December.

What is your job/career?
My family and I run 250 blackface ewes and 100 finewools for club lamb production. While working on my graduate studies I will also be the assistant coach for the Angelo State University Livestock Judging team.

How has showing impacted your career?
There are so many lifelong lessons that you learn in the show industry that it’s hard to pinpoint one specific area. Responsibility would be the first and most beneficial area that comes to mind. From feeding every day to keeping up with school work, grades and everything in between, this helped me to establish a strong sense of responsibility and work ethic. The competitive aspect of showing has also benefited my career directly.  Raising and selling show lambs is a competitive market and this forces me to push myself daily to raise and sell the highest quality of lambs that I can.

Where do you see yourself in 10 years?
Hopefully I will be operating a successful sheep corporation and preparing for some of our own children to start their show careers.

What was your favorite show? Why?
The San Antonio Livestock Show would have to rank pretty high on my list.  I was fortunate enough to have exhibited the Reserve Grand lamb there twice and five second places to the Grand before finally winning it in 2005. This was a great accomplishment and I feel very privileged to have had that experience at such a young age.

Favorite lamb you showed? Why?
My first year showing I had a Finewool Cross named Derail that won numerous breed champions along the summer show circuit before being named Grand Champion at the State Fair of Texas. Derail won me my first big show so for that he will always be my favorite.

What did you enjoy the most about showing?
The lifelong friends and memories that I made along the way is what made my experience most enjoyable.  For me, stock showing was always a family affair. Having lost my mom in high school the memories I have of us traveling far and wide together as a family is something priceless that I will always treasure.

What do you miss most about showing?
With two younger brothers and a sister I have been able to stay very active in the show scene, now I just look forward to raising club lambs to aide in their success and mentoring them through their own show experience.

If you could go back and do one thing over (showing wise), what would it be?
If I could do it again I would haul one lamb to the Houston Livestock Show, that was the only show that I was unable to exhibit a lamb in the grand drive.

Who helped you along the way the most?
I have been privileged to have had countless mentors and advisers along the way. However, I attribute a large amount of my success to the influence and support from my dad Kevin.

What is one piece of advice for those looking to go into your career?
My advice to those looking to begin a career in the livestock industry would be to keep your eye on the goal no matter what your age or your life circumstances are. I started Newsom Livestock Company at 19 years old and have hung on tight even through tough times and when people thought I was too young to take on such a demanding business.

If you had two lambs in the grand drive, who would you get to show the other one?
My brother Conner, he is one of the best showman and certainly the fiercest competitor that I have ever met.

Thank you Logan and best wishes in the future!
